why we Run

The Kawempe Mile Race is an annual event bringing together runners, advocates, and communities to champion causes that matter. From professional athletes to casual runners, this race offers something for everyone. Here’s everything you need to know about participating in the Kawempe Mile Race.

Gender-based violence affects individuals and communities profoundly, leaving lasting scars and limiting potential. In Uganda and many parts of the world, GBV remains a significant obstacle to progress, equality, and freedom. The Kawempe Mile Race seeks to:

  • Raise Awareness: Bring visibility to the silent struggles faced by survivors and educate the public on the prevalence and impact of GBV.
  • Mobilize Support: Rally support and resources for organizations, survivors, and community initiatives dedicated to fighting GBV.
  • Empower Change: Foster dialogue, encourage reporting, and support policies that protect individuals and promote equality.
